Fire Island gay Judy Garland tribute

Howdy Gaybor - the Fire Island tribute inspired by Judy Garland

Picture the scene. It's gay Christmas. Except it's summer and it's happening at the beach in Fire Island.

Everyone knows that Fire Island in summer is where you'll find more gays than at Mariah Carey concert.

In tribute to the icon that is Judy Garland, New York-based singer Seth Sikes has released a gay-themed cover of the singer's (Howdy Neighbor) Happy Harvest - from the 1950 MGM Musical Happy Harvest.

Replacing the word with neighbor with gaybor on numerous occasions, Sikes' video sees him saying hello to many of his hot gay neighbors in beautiful Fire Island. Sikes says that the song is one of his favorite Garland tracks.

He said: “I have always thought the image of Judy driving a tractor and singing this song was the most joyous - and ridiculous - thing I’d ever seen. I’ve been lucky enough to be staying in Fire Island Pines all summer, and since everyone here is always waving to each other, I kept thinking, ‘I’ve GOT to borrow or steal somebody’s tractor and make a Pines version of this song!’ I aimed to capture the all-out friendliness of this island getaway.”

For his modern video tribute, Sikes has written parody lyrics with Tony-award winning lyricist Lisa Lambert, who has collaborated with him on all his previous videos.

And for those of you that have never been to Fire Island, the accompanying video gives you a pretty good idea of its topography and the kind of folks you'll find there each summer.
