World Pride Sydney is expected to be one of the biggest ever staged. Mardi Gras is already one of the world’s biggest pride events every year so imagine our thrill when we found out they would be hosting WorldPride in 2023. Past headliners of Mardi Gras include Cher and Kylie Minogue.
The event will coincide with the 50th anniversary of the first Australian Gay Pride Week, and the fifth anniversary of marriage equality in Australia. It’ll also mark 45 years since Sydney held its first Mardi Gras parade. It’ll also be the first time that World Pride has been hosted in the Southern Hemisphere.
And what’s even better – there will be two separate parades – the traditional Mardi Gras march up Oxford Street, but also a separate parade especially for WorldPride.
Plans are still very much in their formative stages, but if you’re looking to plan ahead then this is undoubtedly going to be the party of the year!
The highlights expected to take place include:
- WorldPride Opening Ceremony
- 45th Anniversary Mardi Gras Parade
- 45th Anniversary Mardi Gras Party
- 30th Anniversary Queer Screen Mardi Gras Film Festival
- WorldPride first Nations Gala Concert
- Bondi Beach Party complete with multiple DJ sets
- Mardi Gras International Arts Festival
- Sissy Ball Grand Final
- WorldPride March
- WorldPride Closing Ceremony
