Why this hotel?: On the Potomac River. Iconic Hotel. Luxury.

The Watergate Hotel is a luxury hotel, located near the Potomac River, which the rooms look out to. The interior is avant garde with a 70s but modern flare, the large rooms have private balconies perfect for taking in the views.

It sits next to the Kennedy Center for Performing Arts and other landmarks such as the White House and Lincoln Memorial are within walking distance. Other attractions such as the National Mall and the George Washington University Museum are a 15-minute walk away.

The Watergate Hotel Complex was made famous by the Watergate Scandal. The hotel playfully capitalizes on this with room cards that say ‘No Need to Break In’. The library has political books detailing events from the 60s and 70s as well as the scandal itself. Even the reservation phone line hold signal are recordings of former President Nixon’s speeches.

The hotel’s flagship restaurant Kingbird is part New American bistro, part French influenced fine dining. You then have the choice to head to the Whiskey Garden where you can drink a cocktail in a winter igloo or Top of the Gate roof deck which provides panoramic views. Alternative nightlife destinations are within a 30-minute walk away.
