Getting Around Singapore

Getting Around Singapore

Whether you are going to Orchard Road to shop or popping by the gay clubs at Tanjong Pagar, the well-connected public transport system makes it a breeze to get around in Singapore.

MRT

The MRT is probably the fastest and more convenient way to get around Singapore besides taxis. It provides great access to almost every part of Singapore. You can choose to purchase standard one-time travel tickets, tourist concession passes or stored value cards (locally known as ez-link cards) from the TransitLink Ticket Office located at the stations. The train route map can be downloaded from https://www.lta.gov.sg/content/ltaweb/en/public-transport/mrt-and-lrt-trains/train-system-map.html if you wish to save it in your phone for easy reference.

Taxi

Taxis are readily available in most parts of Singapore. Fares are charged according to the taximeter, and that includes all applicable surcharges, so if you encounter a taxi driver asking for a fixed fee (usually an exorbitant amount) to your requested destination, leave the taxi and flag for another one. If you are unable to get a taxi, carrying lots of shopping bags or travelling in a group, you can book a taxi and travel in style to your desired destination. Click here for a list of taxi companies to make booking with àhttps://www.lta.gov.sg/content/ltaweb/en/public-transport/taxis/getting-a-taxi.html

Booking charges apply.

Bus

Singapore has a comprehensive bus network and majority of the drivers are able to speak English. Thanks to the hot and humid weather in Singapore, all buses are air-conditioned so that you get to enjoy a comfortable journey. You can either use cash or ez-link card to pay your fare. Fares range from SGD $0.80 to SGD $3.50. Drop the exact amount into the fare box (no change will be given) or tap your ez-link card when you board. Remember to tap your card again when you disembark, else you will be charged the maximum fare for the bus journey. Visit https://www.sbstransit.com.sg/ for the bus routes in Singapore.

Additional information

Whether you are arriving Singapore or getting ready to go back home, Singapore Changi Airport is easily accessible with many modes of transportation available to and from the Airport. If you just arrived in Singapore and are unsure of how to get to the city, do approach the information counters located at the Terminals or visit https://www.changiairport.com/getting-around/to-and-from-the-airport;jsessionid=F1FE0971A301BB063D737387D5B8F3B1 for more information. When your stay in Singapore ends, if you wish to travel in style and comfort, do make airport transfer arrangement with the hotel concierge before you check out from the hotel, otherwise taking the MRT to the airport is an economical alternative.
