Best Gay Cruising Areas in Sitges
Where to cruise in Sitges
Sitges is one of Europe’s most famous gay destinations - a sunny Catalan town just 40 minutes from Barcelona. Every gay traveler has to visit Sitges at least once in a lifetime, especially if you’re European.
Beyond the bars and clubs of Calle del Pecado and the popular gay beach at Balmins, Sitges has long been known for its relaxed and open-minded cruising culture. In peak season over the summer, the gays outnumber the straights in Sitges.
Platja de la Bassa Rodona - Sitges’ main gay beach
Opposite Hotel Calipolis you’ll find Platja de la Bassa Rodona, Sitges’ main gay beach. Here you’ll find many attractive gay men soaking up with sun while checking each other out. As this is the most public gay beach in Sitges, cruising activity occurs at a more ambient level. Eyes rove, conversation is initiated and activities are coordinated in more discrete parts of town.
Some Travel Gay users have reported activities taking place in the sea as you wade out from the shore. The waves can provide surprisingly effective cover as you get to know your new companion. Please don’t wade too far from the shore: you’re looking to pull a man, not a jellyfish.
Playa del Muerto (Dead Man’s Beach)
The most famous cruising area by far is Playa del Muerto, also known as Dead Man’s Beach. Located around two kilometres west of the town centre, this rocky, secluded cove is a legendary nude beach with decades of cruising tradition. It’s busiest in summer afternoons and early evenings, when men sunbathe nude and check each other out on the sand or among the rocks.
Just behind the beach is a wooded area of pine forest criss-crossed with dusty paths, with even more secluded spots. The vibe is relaxed and discreet, but everyone knows why they’re there. This isn’t one of these “gay beaches” where most people are straight. This is a truly gay beach.
Balmins Beach
Closer to town, Balmins Beach is Sitges’ best-known gay-popular, clothing-optional beach. Just a short walk from the centre, Balmins has a more social, laid-back atmosphere where flirting happens naturally on the sand or among the rocks and breakwaters. It’s not as explicit as Playa del Muerto, but after dark it’s known for some discreet cruising. Many hook-ups here end up continuing elsewhere in town.
Saunas and Dark Rooms in Town
If you prefer to play indoors, Sitges also has a central gay sauna - Sauna Sitges - which has private cabins, dark areas, and steam rooms. Though relatively small, it’s well equipped and it attracts men of all ages and types from around the world. It’s busiest during late afternoons and weekends when the bars close.
Some bars in the heart of town also have dark rooms or play spaces, most notably Bukkake, which has an extensive maze. Bukkake is the place to be later at night - it starts to pick up in there after midnight.
Cafe Terrace Cruising
Yes, you read that right. In the main gay bars in the centre of Sitges, you will notice ample outdoor seating. The seating is laid out strategically: you are forced to check out the action across the street, and inevitably, eyes roam.
As you evening progresses, you make your way from Parrots to El Horno, and guys are spilling out of the bars onto the street. It all becomes very social and you’ll find yourself chatting with people. Sitges’ nightlife is well optimised for spontaneous social interactions. Sometimes these social interactions become very friendly.
