    Pride History

Bogota Pride traces its roots back to April 9, 1977, when activist León Zuleta, along with Manuel Velandia and other prominent figures, co-founded the Homosexual Liberation Movement of Colombia (MLHC) following the inspiration of the Stonewall Riots of 1969. On June 28, 1983, after the national decriminalization of homosexuality, they organized the first LGBT+ pride march in the centre of Bogotá. This milestone event laid the groundwork for the vibrant and expansive Pride celebrations seen today.

In the past years, more than 100,000 people participated in Bogota Pride, underscoring its significance as Colombia’s largest LGBT+ event and one of the major Pride celebrations worldwide.
