International Mr. Leather (IML) is a leather, kink, and fetish conference, that brings together thousands of enthusiasts from around the world for a celebration of festish queer culture and community. Since its founding in 1979, IML has grown into one of the most iconic leather events, characterized by its intense competition, legendary parties, and marketplace. In 2026, IML returns to Chicago from May 23-27.

What Is International Mr. Leather?

IML began as a small contest at Chicago’s Gold Coast leather bar before transforming into an international event. Today, it features the International Mr. Leather competition, where contestants (qualified through regional contests or sponsorships) compete for the 'Mr Leather' title. Alongside the main event, International Mr. Bootblack (IMBB) highlights the artistry of bootblacking, while themed parties, fetish fairs, and socials create a fun and dynamic weekend of leather pride.

The event also highlights activism and education, with discussions on LGBTQ+ and leather community issues. Proceeds support the Leather Archives & Museum, preserving the history of kink and fetish culture.
