    Hokitika is a town in the West Coast region of New Zealand's South Island. It was founded in 1864 during the gold rush, and it quickly became a major center for mining and commerce.

    Today, Hokitika is a popular tourist destination, and it is known for its pounamu (greenstone), whitebait, and wild scenery. The town is also home to the Hokitika Gorge, a beautiful turquoise-colored river gorge.
