A charming little haven in the heart of Kathmandu old city

I was excited to learn of the first LGBT bar/bistro Pink Tiffany after living in Kathmandu for over four years. I found the bar on the "Freak Street" (the old hippie hang-out) right next to Basantapur Durbar Square, and it was a charming little hide-out with two cosy floors in an old building. Both the owner and staff were friendly and music was great. It served local cuisine and shisha, both well prepared. The ambiance is very relaxed and soothing, much like the neighbourhood of Kathmandu's old quarter. Not a place for hook-up or wild parties, but definitely worth hanging out for a drink and a smile!

      Terrible experience

This venue is not worth a visit. Its very small, very dirty and it looks rather like living room with few coffee tables and bus style seats. When I arrived there was no-one except the staff sitting with his friends. I can't imagine to order a food in such place. Very hard to find, the name in the building, is half destroyed. To come here is a lost of energy and time. No taxi driver in Kathmandu knows Freak street. I would not recommend to anyone to pay a visit, this place is definitely not worth it. Homesexuality in Nepal is widely not accepted by the society and 99% of gays are living in the closet. There can't be expectation to find a place where gays openly meet. I think if this place should attract people, the owners should definitely decorate it and keep it clean. To put some visible sign on the venue would be advisable as well.

      Change of Venue

I believe the Freak St (Jhochhen Tol) venue has now moved to Sathghumti in Thamel. I recently stayed in a hotel in Sathghumti for 6 weeks but didn't notice PINK Tiffany nearby. If I had known it was so close to my hotel I would have visited. I will return next year so will look for it then.
