Sofia Pride 2025, Bulgaria's largest human rights event, is scheduled to take place on Saturday, June 14, marking the 18th consecutive year of this significant LGBTQ+ celebration in Bulgaria's capital city.
Sofia Pride Parade
The event will commence with a vibrant concert at Knyaz Alexander I Battenberg Square, featuring performances by local and international artists. Following the concert, participants will march through the city center, advocating for equality and visibility for the LGBTQ+ community.
Sofia Pride History
Sofia Pride began with its inaugural event on June 28, 2008, which coincided with the anniversary of the Stonewall riots. That first march was small, with approximately 120 participants, and was marred by violence and opposition. However, over the years, the event has grown in both size and acceptance, with the 2019 parade attracting around 6,000 attendees. The event has steadily gained support from international embassies, political parties, and organizations, though it continues to face opposition from conservative groups and the Bulgarian Orthodox Church.
