Best Gay Bars & Clubs in Miami

Check out our top picks for some of the hottest and best gay bars in Miami with reviews and maps. You can't tan on the beach all day!

Miami’s LGBTQ+ nightlife is spread across several neighbourhoods, from the famous gay scene of South Beach to late-night bars and clubs across the mainland. Expect drag brunches, long-running gay bars, LGBTQ+-friendly cocktail spots, Latin nightlife and plenty of places to dance until late.

South Beach remains the easiest base if nightlife is a priority, particularly around Ocean Drive and Washington Avenue, but some of Miami’s most interesting gay nights out are found across the bay in neighbourhoods such as Wynwood, Brickell and Little Havana.

    Miami Gay Bars

Miami’s gay bar scene is varied rather than concentrated in one single strip. South Beach is home to some of the city’s best-known LGBTQ+ venues.

Elsewhere, venues in Wynwood and Brickell attract mixed but LGBTQ+-friendly crowds.

Twist is one of South Beach’s longest-running gay clubs and still one of the easiest places to recommend if you want a proper late night out. The two-story venue has seven bars and three dance floors, with each room offering a different atmosphere, from the main dance floor to the Latin room, patio and more relaxed bar spaces.

It is open every day from 3pm until 5am, with 2-for-1 drinks until 9pm. Weekends are the busiest, with DJs, drag, dancers and a mixed crowd of locals and visitors, while regular nights include Latin parties, karaoke and other themed events. Twist is 21+ and gets especially busy after midnight, so arriving earlier can save you a queue.

It’s also just a short walk from Palace Bar, so the two are easy to combine on a South Beach night out.

Twist’s motto is ‘Never A Cover, Always a Grove’, and if there’s one thing this cover-free venue can promise, it’s an unforgettable night in fabulous Miami.

Palace Bar is one of South Beach’s best-known gay venues, with a prime Ocean Drive location and a drag show that regularly spills out toward the sidewalk. The big draw is the performers: expect high-energy numbers, plenty of crowd interaction and a steady shower of dollar bills, especially during the hugely popular drag brunches. The venue also has a rooftop bar with ocean views, plus indoor and patio seating.

Palace attracts a broad mix of LGBTQ+ locals, tourists, birthday groups and visitors who have come specifically for the show, so it can feel more like a South Beach spectacle than a traditional neighborhood gay bar. If the drag is the reason you are going, reserve ahead and ask for a table with a clear view of the performance area.

Kill Your Idol is a quirky South Beach hangout with a strong alternative streak and a loyal LGBTQ+ following. It’s a good choice if you want something more relaxed and characterful than Miami Beach’s polished clubs and high-end cocktail bars.

The interior is packed with retro details, pop-culture references and punk-inspired touches, giving the place a deliberately scruffy, old-school feel. The crowd is usually a broad mix of LGBTQ+ locals, visitors and straight allies, so the atmosphere feels inclusive without being exclusively gay.

The events calendar is one of the main reasons to visit, with regular drag shows, bingo, karaoke, trivia, live music and DJ nights. Some evenings are much more gay-focused than others, so it’s worth checking what’s on before you go.

Drinks are simple and unfussy, with beer and classic bar pours fitting the casual atmosphere. If you’re staying in South Beach, Kill Your Idol is an easy place to add to a night out when you want good music, a mixed crowd and something with a little more edge.

If you want to keep going afterwards, Twist is only a short walk away for late-night dancing.

    Miami Gay Clubs

For a bigger night out, Miami’s LGBTQ+ club scene extends well beyond South Beach. The city’s diverse gay population is reflected in its nightlife, with dedicated spaces serving Latino, Black and BIPOC communities alongside mixed LGBTQ+ parties.

Expect drag performances, cabaret, hip-hop, R&B, house, reggae and late-night dancing, depending on the venue. Clubs such as Azucar and CLUBBOI are reminders that some of Miami’s strongest LGBTQ+ nightlife happens away from the beach.

CLUBBOI is one of Miami’s standout gay party nights, with a strong following among Black and BIPOC LGBTQ+ clubbers. The focus is firmly on music and dancing, with hip-hop, R&B, house and reggae.

The atmosphere is energetic, social and less polished than some of Miami’s big-name clubs, which is part of the appeal. Expect DJs, drag appearances and a crowd that comes ready to stay late.

Located in North Miami, CLUBBOI is well away from South Beach, so it’s best treated as a destination night rather than somewhere you casually drop into while bar-hopping.
