The Crown & Anchor is one of the biggest names in gay Provincetown nightlife, occupying a prime spot on Commercial Street and packing several LGBTQ+ bars, clubs and performance spaces into one complex.

You can make an entire night of it here. The Crown & Anchor Entertainment Complex is comprised of Wave Video Bar, The Cabaret Room, The Vault, Paramount Club and Dive Bar. The Crown also has a dedicated events programme and ticketing, so it's worth checking what's on before you visit.

For gay visitors, this is one of the most useful places to know in P-Town: it's right on Commercial Street, firmly in the middle of the LGBTQ+ scene and particularly lively during the summer season and major gay weeks.

WAVE is a longtime gay favorite within Provincetown’s Crown & Anchor complex on Commercial Street, with views overlooking Provincetown Harbor.

True to its video-bar roots, WAVE mixes cocktails and conversation with classic music videos, making it an easy place to start the evening before heading deeper into P-Town’s nightlife. The atmosphere is generally more social and relaxed than a full-on nightclub, though things can get lively later in the evening.

A highlight is WAVE’s Showtunes nights on Sunday and Wednesday. These long-running sing-along evenings bring together locals, seasonal residents and visitors for Broadway favorites and have become something of a Provincetown tradition.

Come around sunset for drinks and harbor views, stay for Showtunes, or move on later to Paramount for dancing. With several LGBTQ+ venues under one roof, the Crown & Anchor is one of the easiest places in Provincetown to turn one drink into a full night out.

This is one of those P-Town spots where the location does most of the talking. Grab a cocktail, beer or frozen drink, find a seat by the water and settle in for harbor views, boats passing by and some excellent people-watching.

The deck and waterfront setting as the main reason to come, particularly on sunny afternoons and around sunset.

    Provincetown Gay Clubs

For dancing, Provincetown has a smaller but well-established club scene. Paramount at Crown & Anchor is one of the main options for DJs, themed nights and big seasonal events, while A-HOUSE combines its historic bars with the Big Room dance floor.

The club scene is busiest later in the evening and during weeks such as Carnival, Bear Week and July 4th, when P-Town’s nightlife gets noticeably busier.

Paramount is Provincetown’s largest oceanside dance club and one of the main nightlife venues inside the Crown & Anchor complex on Commercial Street.

The club has a large dance floor and hosts DJs, themed parties, drag shows and special events throughout the season. Its calendar often lines up with some of Provincetown’s biggest weeks, including Bear Week, Carnival, Women’s Week, Family Week, Frolic and the Fourth of July celebrations.

Paramount is also home to regular summer shows from well-known Provincetown performers including Varla Jean Merman and Dina Martina.

If you’re looking for somewhere to dance later in the evening, Paramount is one of the obvious places to head. You can start with drinks at WAVE Video Bar or another Crown & Anchor venue, then move into Paramount once things get busier.

Atlantic House, better known as A-HOUSE, is one of Provincetown’s best-known gay nightlife venues and the only year-round gay nightclub on Cape Cod.

The venue is split into three distinct spaces. Little Bar is the original tavern-style room and a classic cruise bar with a jukebox, fireplace and nautical decor. Upstairs, Macho Bar is the leather-and-denim bar, while The Dance Club, also known as the Big Room, is where A-HOUSE hosts DJs, themed nights and late-night dancing.

A-HOUSE also has a big place in Provincetown’s gay history. The building dates back to 1798, and the bar has been associated with gay visitors for generations, becoming openly gay-friendly by the 1950s. Today it remains one of the town’s best-known gay institutions and is open year-round.

If you want a more cruisy atmosphere, head for Little Bar or Macho Bar. For dancing, the Big Room is the main draw.

A-HOUSE is actually one of the oldest gay bars in America - if you count the years it was in the closet.
