essential guide to Busan

Busan 부산시

South Korea's largest port and second largest city, Busan is famous for its beaches, hot springs and international events. This fast-growing city is located on the southern tip of the Korean peninsula and has a population of around 3.6 million.

Each year, Busan has an increasing number of visitors and sailors from around the world. The city is home to Haeundae Beach 해운대해수욕장, the country’s largest beach, and the Shinsegae Centum City 신세계 센텀시티, the world’s largest department store.

The renowned Busan International Film Festival is held in the fall.

Gay Scene

Busan has a small, laid-back gay scene. The city’s ‘gaybourhood’ is located in in Beomil-dong in Busanjin District, near Beomil subway station. There are few friendly Gay Bars & Clubs and gay karaoke bars in this area, and it is not unusual to see gay couples walking around.

To get to Beomil-dong gay area, take the subway to Beomil station (Line 1). Go to Exit 1 and walk straight about 60 meters, and you will see U+ Square store. Turn right and you will see a sign that reads 새마을금고 (which means Community Credit Cooperatives). Continue walking straight down and you are there.
