The 2021 event is cancelled due to the pandemic.

Banda de Ipanema is the most gay-popular street party at Rio Carnival. It’s very flamboyant. You’ll see a parade of drag queens in stunning outfits. Banda de Ipanema attracts up to 20,000 people to party on the streets of Ipanema. You’ll see the hottest gay Brazilian men with their shirts off!

The Banda de Ipanema usually hosts two parties on the two Saturdays before Carnival. A third Banda de Ipanema takes place on the Saturday of Rio Carnival – that party is considered to be the gayest and therefore most fun event. The 2021 event is set to take place on 13 Feb.
