Gay Village

Montreal’s gay village is home to many gay bars, most of which can be found on Rue Sainte-Catherine. It’s one of the biggest gay districts in North America.

Popular gay bistro in Montreal’s gay village. This place is something of an institution. It’s great for people watching – you’ll see a lot of hot Montrealer guys.

You can choose from a wide variety of dishes including local and international cuisine. You can tuck into a filling burger or fish and chips; if you’re watching the calories then there a plenty of lighter options. There’s also a good choice for vegetarians.

Happy hour takes place between 16:00 – 19:00 and invariably draws a diverse crowd.

This restro-bar covers all your needs. You can dine here like you’re in a restaurant or make a night of it at the bar. You could well find yourself doing both.

This classy cocktail bar is located on St. Catherine Street, right in the heart of Montreal’s gay village. It’s right by Beaudry metro station, so it’s a great spot if you simply cannot wait for that martini.

Bar Renard offers a good selection of artisan beers. A food bar menu is available if you get pecking, but this is really a place to drink rather than eat.

The chic decor and friendly atmosphere make for a charming experience. This is a good place to start your night out.

Cabaret Mado is an iconic Montreal drag bar located on St Catherine. Presided over by the Drag Queen Mado Lamotte herself, she hosts a variety of drag performers and interacts with the crowd in French. If she knows there are tourists in the crowd she’ll occasionally switch to English.

Inspired by the decadent Weimar entertainments of the 1920s, this gender-bending den of ill repute is guaranteed to be a good night out.

Bar Relaxe is a cheap and cheerful pub in the centre of Montreal’s gay village offering affordable drinks and friendly bartenders.

There’s outdoor seating available for (rare) sunny days in Montreal. It’s just around the corner from Beaudry metro station.

Bar Relaxe is a good place to meet some locals. The drinks are reasonably priced.

Taverne Normandie sits just off the corner of the main strip of Montreal’s gay village. It’s one of the oldest gay bars in town.

It has an outdoor seating area for those elusive sunny days. If you’re feeling brave you can try your hand at the karaoke. Celebrities have been known to pop in for impromptu performances.

Club Date is a karaoke bar on St Catherine Street. Here you’ll find a mixed crowd having their Canadian Idol moment. From the ridiculous to the sublime and back to the ridiculous, you’re likely to have fun here – you may even take to the microphone.

If you enjoy the joys and sorrows of karaoke, then this bar is a good bet.

The decor may be a little faded, but when you hear someone drunkenly warbling their way through Whitney you’re guaranteed to crack a smile.

Bar Le Cocktail is a drag and cocktail bar located in the heart Montreal’s gay village.

It’s a great place to start the night with happy hour from 5-8pm serving whisky and martinis, and drag shows from Wednesday to Sunday. But if you want to carry on here, the bar also offers karaoke every night, with drag hostesses and DJ’s until late.

Stock Bar is a male strip club in Montreal’s gay village featuring over 60 muscular hunks dancing for your pleasure.

Stock is a well-established name in the Montreal gay scene and is well known for having the best dancers in town. With so many dancers onstage, there’s somebody to suit everybody’s tastes.

Get here quickly and grab a stage-side seat for a great view, but don’t worry as there is plenty of other seats available too if you come later.

The bar is fairly affordable, and Stock Bar and is located on the main strip in the gay village, right in the heart of the action. A trip here would be a great start to your evening, or maybe you’ll want to stay all night. The crowd is often mostly women, but gay men are always welcome to join in on the fun.

Campus, a strip bar in the core of Montreal’s gay village, offers a variety of muscular hunks and twinks dancing for your pleasure.

Campus is one of the oldest and most famous strip bars in town, with a long-standing reputation of hot dancers onstage. The bar is affordable and the stage is very close to the seating area, so you can get right up close to the action!

Mile-Ex

Mile-Ex is an up and coming neighbourhood and something of a hipster paradise. There’s a great foodie scene. It’s home to a large LGBT+ community.

Notre Dame des Quilles is a popular Montreal gay bar, catering mainly to the city’s lesbian crowd.

Known as the original watering hole for gay women in Montreal, Notre Dame des Quilles now welcomes diverse crowds from across the region.

Inside you’ll find friendly bar staff waiting to serve you affordable drinks surrounded by bowling alley-style decor.

Look out for this gay bar’s special theme nights, including Glitter Bomb, weekend dance parties, and karaoke.

Bar Le Ritz PDB is not a gay bar but it hosts some gay events. It’s good to check out if you’re into indie music. There are regular live gigs and DJ sets.

It’s an intimate space so you’ll be fairly up close and personal with the whoever’s playing.

Bar Le Ritz PDB is located between the Mile-X district and Little Italy.

Something of a local institution, Alexandraplatz Bar is in homage to Berlin’s warehouse aesthetic. It’s popular with the local arty crowd and it attracts a lot of gay visitors.

The bar was opened by Penny Pattison and Bernadette Houde – who formed the band Lesbians on Ecstasy. A good spot if you’re looking for an alternative queer vibe.

Red Light District

Until recent decades, Montreal’s Red Light District was riddled with brothels and strip joints. Today it’s packed with upscale apartments. If you search, you shall find glimpses of the areas’ notorious past.

Café Cléopatra is an old school strip club in Montreal’s red light district. It has survived the encroaching gentrification of the local area.

Upstairs in the cabaret you’ll find nightly drag shows, including performances by local drag houses.

Elsewhere In The City

The latest addition to Montreal’s growing cabaret scene, The Wiggle Room is located on the buzzing St. Laurent Boulevard, just across the road from Shwartz’s. This den of hedonism is known as “Montreal’s hardened artery.”

You’ll find bourbon, boobs and buts – throw in a bit of gender-bending and you have yourself a satisfying evening.
