After retaining some funds for future events, 300,000 baht will be distributed The Life Home Project Foundation Phuket and the PLU Community Project, which is working to increase awareness about the risks of HIV and safer sex in Patong.
The money was raised at events including the Phuket Pride Pool Party, a day trip to Raya island, Gala Dinner & Charity Auction, Garland Party & Mr Phuket Pride contest and the Sunset Beach Party.
The 2014 theme ‘Celebrating Who We Are’ was designed to encourage all LGBT people to come out and have fun, to invite straight friends to join in, breaking down barriers of intolerance whilst raising money for charity.
During the Gala Dinner held at the Millennium Resort in Patong, the Chairman of the PLU Community Project Team, Ken Miller, gave an emotional presentation on the objectives of the PLU Club which received a standing ovation from everyone present.
The Chairman of the PLU Ian Phillips said “This year, bringing together a week of events and trying to plan them around elections being called and cancelled was extremely challenging. It could only be done by the hard work and dedication of many people, both Thai and farang and the venues which made these events happen”
The Grand Parade through the streets of Patong did not take place this year. The gay business owners from Soi Paradise decided that they would prefer a small parade around the street close to Paradise.
The PLU Club plans to widen the range of events it holds during the year; not only in Patong but throughout the gay community that is located around the rest of Phuket Island.
