Rio hosts to world's largest carnival, attracting around 2 million people every year. Rio Carnival 2021 kicks off on 13 February and runs until 26 February. Although Rio carnival isn't a gay event, it attracts many gay travelers and locals. There are many gay events and after-parties to attend. Besides, the whole thing is wildly camp.

The main parades at Rio Carnival are, of course, held at the vast Sambadrome arena. There are many smaller street parties happening throughout the city. Banda de Ipanema is an event that attracts a big gay crowd and features a parade of drag queens.
