Why this hotel? Rooftop pool overlooking skyline. Great location.
9.3 Exceptional - based on 157 reviews
The hotel is located in the 1924 Commercial Exchange building (with the original neon signage still in place), former home to the publishing house responsible for Tarzan (you’ll find the novel in some rooms). It’s smack in the centre of Downtown LA’s gay action, close to hip bars and restaurants. Be sure to make a pitstop at the historic Grand Central Market.
The completely wood-panelled and pillared lobby area has sunset-hued walls. The rooftop area is dotted with flamingo-pink umbrellas and loungers – perfect for recreating a modern-day Slim Aarons pool scene.
The rooms feature solid wood furniture and more Navajo styling, with wall hangings and local artwork. Amenities include digital radios, 43-inch TVs, desks, seating areas, bottled water and a hanging basket of snacks.
