Homo Hill / Itaewon

Itaewon is the international epicentre of Seoul’s gay nightlife located in Yongsan District. Many gay bars and clubs are located here, just a short walk from the Itaewon subway station.

Gay dance bar on “Homo Hill” with high ceiling, modern interior. Why Not is known for its friendly staff, nice ambience, and fun K-pop on the weekend.

Music ranges from house, techno and pop remixes. Cover charge includes one drink. Attracts both locals and foreigners. Located right next to SOHO and close other gay bars on the “Hill”.

Popular, homely gay bar on ‘Homo Hill’ with a little touch of style. Always Homme 올웨이즈옴므 serves a nice range of cocktails, beer, wine, juices and coffee.

Busy on the weekend before/after clubbing hours, with mostly tourists, expats and young local guys. The music is not too loud, and the friendly staff can speak English.

From Itaewon Station (Exit 3), walk to the next street and turn right. Take the second left and walk halfway up the hill and look for the sign on the left.

Cool, stylish gay bar in Itaewon gay district. ALMAZ has a laid-back atmosphere, with light-reflecting disco balls.

ALMAZ is tucked away on a small alley (before you get to ‘Homo Hill’). About halfway down the alley, you’ll see the white sign. Walk through the door, the bar is on your right.

Small, intimate bar next to Always Homme. The décor of Oz is a bit brighter, with seating at the bar but no tables.

Unlike at most bars in the area, you can have a conversation here. The bartenders are friendly. Oz draws a more mature crowd. Open Tuesday-Saturday, from 8pm until late.

Jongno

This central district is home to Seoul’s oldest gay village. There are dozens of gay bars, karaoke and restaurants in this area. The crowd is mostly local Koreans, but foreigners are welcome.

Foreigner-friendly gay bar with English-speaking staff. The interior of Shortbus is neatly designed and features a triangle-shaped bar and six tables set against a row of large windows.

Music is mainly lounge and house. Free WiFi available. Open daily from 7:30pm until late.

This is one of the few gay bars outside of Itaewon where you’ll see some foreigners.

This stylish bar offers a cosy, relaxing atmosphere and can seat up to 45 people (large by Jongno standards). A great place to have a drink alone or hang with friends.

Located behind Nagwon Arcade near Jongno 3-ga Station (Exit 5). Cross the street and turn right into the first alley.

One of the most popular gay karaoke bars in Jongno. Wallpaper has an attractive design and gets busy every night. Arrive early if you want to get a table and plan to sing.

Gay-popular Nordic bar & café lounge offering a nice selection of drinks. You’re not required to order meals with your drinks, though.

OWOO attracts a mixed crowd and a few foreigners. Staff speak limited English.

Take Jongno 3-ga Station (Line 1, 3, 5), Exit 4, make a quick U-turn then look for their logo, a deer head, on the 4th floor across the street.
