Eixample is a huge district of tree-lined streets that feature some of Barcelona’s most famous modernist buildings.
The streets north of Gran Via de les Corts Catalanes (from Urgell metro station to Universitat metro station) are home to much of Barcelona’s gay scene. Hotels near this area are popular as they are close to the gay nightlife and it’s just a short walk to the historic city centre.
Considered to be the centre of Barcelona, Plaza de Catalunya intersects between the Old Town and the newer 19th century Eixample district.
To the south is La Rambla street which connects the Plaza with Port Vell and the beach. The area is filled with boutique shops and cafés. The Eixample gay village is a short walk from these hotels.
The most gay-popular beach in Barcelona. Mar Bella is officially a nudist beach where many guys keep their tackle undercover as those who let it all hang out. If the beach is your priority, consider this area.
From Mar Bella, it takes 3-6 metro stops (L4) to Barcelona city centre and about 20-30 minutes to the Eixample gay village. If you stay out very late, you will need to take a taxi back.
Hotels in this area are also close to the excellent El Poblenou walking street which is full of very good cafés and restaurants – generally a much better value that in the centre.
